That Coat

I went through my closet
And stumbled upon that
grey coat.

It’s been a year
since I had last seen you.
Since I last wore it.
I stuffed it away to the
back of the closet with
all the other memories.
I still can grasp your
scent
from it.

The button you snapped
off
is still in the pocket.
We laughed
And laughed over how you caused it to happen.
That moment was blissful, &
full of
innocence.
At least on
my
part.

Like my snapped
off
button
that I
hid
in my coat’s pocket
you
were
hiding
Secrets.
I was in your coat pocket while
you
were with
her.
I never
knew.
I Never
thought.
I Never
guessed.

Now I’m sure
you
are Up to the same-
Only with your wife.

I really hope
you are
happy.

  1. Thanks for stopping by the waxing poetic project and giving me a like. You have a great voice. I really enjoyed your posts, especially this one about the old coat and memories all tied up within. Looking forward to reading your next writings.

  2. This makes me sad and angry at the same time 😦 why cant relationships be simple and honest? I’m sorry you were hidden, I’m sorry he lied, I’m sorry you still remember and think of it 😦

    1. I know right? It’s sad that honesty is an unheard of concept in this day and age. But at least I found out the truth in the end. Secrets never stay hidden! I’ve only become more honest as a result 🙂
